There has been a revival of interest in Kven, with growing numbers of learners throughout Norway and Finland. This is the first comprehensive presentation of the Kven grammar (Porsanki dialect) in English.
Language revitalization has always been a heated debate in linguistics. Research in the field has stressed on failed attemps of revitalization because of unavoidable homogenization. Thus it is important to nurture awareness of the Kven language both nationally and internationally.
The purpose of our tentative writing and compilation of this grammar is to provide lessons to learners of Kven, who particularly bear no knowledge of Norwegian or Finnish.
We ourselves may with a clear conscience lay claim to any omissions or errors which remain.
